Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
I certainly wouldn't hold up Spurs transfer efforts as a role model

Even their own fans are unhappy at the amount of money wasted on new players from the Bale windfall

Hopefully, we will soon be signing Lanzini permanently for around £6m (or about half the price of Townsend!)

I know which player I would prefer to have on the books

I agree, let's sell Payet and replace him with 7 players out of whom 6 fail.

January Transfer Window is always a sellers market unless a players contract coming to an end in the summer.

Somehow the all caps seemed to suit your post. A proportion of every club's transfers fail, and I'm not saying that everything Spurs have done I fully agree with, or that their record was perfect. Generally it is hugely effective and highly successful, and I think it's worth acknowledging that.

Hopefully our clever owners are looking at their approach and wondering how they can learn from it.

Now hold on. he was the answer to England's midfield problems a year ago. I have it on good authority from some pundits

Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
The problem with townsend is that he is still fairly young, so has a resale value, he is english, so therefore has some premium, and has played for england and is likely to again under hodgson. plus it being january prices are inflated anyway.

all these things combine to drive up his price. if he was 28 and hodgeson wasnt in charge of our national team he' be going for 5/6m max in the summer.

Compared to some of the stupid money being spent , ie Grabban then probably , yes

YOU MENTIONED THE OTHER DAY THAT THEY WERE GREAT AT GETTING TOP DOLLAR FOR THEIR PLAYERS AND SPENDING IT WISELY. I THEN LISTED THE 7 PLAYERS THEY BOUGHT WITH THE BALE MONEY. DON'T QUITE REMEMBER YOUR REPLY TO THAT ONE MATE, BUT TO BE HONEST I QUITE LIKE THE WAY WE DO THINGS AND I DON'T THINK WASTING 26M ON SOLDADO, 30M ON LAMELA ETC IS THE TYPE OF THING I WANT TO COPY. FAIR PLAY IF YOU ARE IN AWE OF LEVY THOUGH, I THINK THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT YOU.

>>> Tottenham are BRILLIANT at getting top dollar for the players they sell.

Agreed. I'm absolutely in awe of what they've done recently - I think they've not got enough credit for it. They have an outside chance of winning the league this season with a positive transfer balance over recent years. It's not an accident.

We should be looking at what they're doing and copying it, honestly.

I always thought Andros Townsend has something on Hodgson as he always picks him despite not playing for the yids.

Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
Didn't he break through at spurs in the same sort of furore that Deli Dli is now and get into the england team. got injured and then started coming back.

Had a row with a training coach at spurs over nothing and got dropped?

If he gets his form back to where he was then he is easily worth 12 mill.

payet may have been cheaper but we got a bargain there

Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
If he keeps them up he's worth about 3 times that

Not sure he's building fast enough though. His team have to overtake - and stay ahead of - Norwich & Bournemouth at least.

Next 3 games for all:

Everton v Newcastle United
Newcastle United v West Bromwich Albion
Chelsea v Newcastle United

Norwich City v Tottenham Hotspur
Aston Villa v Norwich City
Norwich City v West Ham United

AFC Bournemouth v Arsenal
AFC Bournemouth v Stoke City
Watford v AFC Bournemouth

I see a point each for Newcastle & Bournemouth, and 3 for Norwich in those games, which will leave them in 18th with 12 games to go.

And that assumes Fat Sam doesn't pull a poacher's haul of rabbits from his hat.

Definitely not, we got PAYET for less.

geoffpikey 12:56 Thu Jan 28
Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
Anything is "worth" what someone is prepared to to pay. Simple as that. The buyer only finds out later if the purchase was good value.

Liverpool paid £35m for Andy Carroll! We paid a lot less, but I'm not sure he's been good value.

The Ghost of Braderz 12:55 Thu Jan 28
Re: Andros Townsend worth £12 million?
Really don't see how it's hard to understand. Fees for players will be increasing, not because teams have more to spend as such, but rather the selling teams are quite comfortable rejecting lower bids.

You can double what your expectations are and whack on 20% to that if they're British.

Townsend has always shown promise. 12m is not extortionate. I suggest you lot are letting hate cloud your judgement.
